Enlightening Quotes

"[R]ights are the result of popular engagement and struggle." -- Noam Chomsky, The Common Good (1998), p. 153.

"You liberate yourself through participation with others ... Popular organizations and umbrella groups help create a basis for this." -- Noam Chomsky, The Common Good (1998), p. 154.

"Despair is a state we fall into when our imagination fails. ... Political failure is, at heart, a failure of imagination. Without a restauration story that can tell us where we need to go, nothing is going to change. But with such a restauration story, almost everything can change." - George Monbiot, 2019, TED talks, "The new political story that could change everything", starting at 6:50

Introduction

The following contains a representative list of NGOs and social movements (activist groups, advocacy groups, information sites, monitors, observatories, watchdogs, etc.) for the 'core' and overlapping global civil society civic engagement sections of

(3) rights and liberties (class struggle/war, democracy, delegative/liquid democracy, economic democracy, ecosocialism, human rights, women's (human) rights/gender equality, children's (human) rights, labor/workers' rights, peasant's rights, right to food, anti-racism, civil liberties, freedom of information, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, participation, social justice, trade unionism) and the two intimately intertwined but to be distinguished sub-clusters of...

While we do not wish to further the left-right split since we think that the main issue here is and ought to be the class struggle or war of the 1% versus the 99%, we nevertheless provide a lot of links to organisations or people that are often identified as left-wing. Those selections, however, do not result from blindly adhering to some left-wing dogmas. Instead, these choices result from our belief in social or political enlightenment and progress and from the simple fact that it is not exclusively but mostly certain parts of the left which are able to deliver just that. Centrists and right-wingers, on the other hand, are often agents for maintaining the status quo as well as agents for especially 'neoliberal' counter-enlightenment and regress. This runs counter to our goals and the best of interests of the 99%. Thus our generally leftist inclinations which are in the end neither 'left' nor 'right' but simply pro-99% and potentially even pro-100% ways of going about things.

We also included global civil society related organs and offices or departments of the United Nations since we generally appreciate their work, since we feel that the public should be more aware of what is happening there, but also so that you can see the differences between bureaucratic top down and unbureaucratic bottow up organisations.
